A man identified as Elenilson Melara, who is 41 years old and from El Salvador, passed away after drowning while swimming in the Buffalo River on Sunday afternoon.

Rescue teams from the Perry County Rescue Squad were dispatched to the Buffalo River Resort following a report from a family that a man had gone under the water while swimming.

Officials confirmed that a man experienced difficulty while swimming on Sunday and submerged beneath the surface.

Emergency crews started searching the area right away and found the victim close to where he was last seen.

The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Perry County Sheriff’s Department announced that he is Elenilson Melara, aged 41.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Department and Perry County EMS were also dispatched to the incident location.
