Fatal Birmingham shooting death of George Camarius Daniel
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the 16-year-old victim, George Camarius Daniel, known to attend Huffman High School as a junior.
Birmingham East Precinct dispatched officers after 4 p.m. to a traffic crash reported near the 1000 block of Huffman Road.
Upon their arrival, the responding officers observed Daniel outside a vehicle, unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the young man dead at the scene at 4:30 p.m.
A second teenager was also discovered but suffered an injury that was not immediately life-threatening. Medical transport via ambulance was arranged to UAB Hospital.
Officer De’Rell Freeman relayed that preliminary investigation suggests several individuals gathered at that location for an undetermined reason before gunfire erupted. The specific motive for this tragic shooting remains unknown.
According to law enforcement, the Special Operations Bureau apprehended a suspect. Two other individuals were held pending further questioning by investigators.
As of now, no formal charges have been announced by the authorities.
This incident marks the 53rd fatality in Birmingham attributed to homicide this year.
