Investigators are dealing with the aftermath of a serious two-vehicle collision reported on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred on Highway 72, located near the intersection with Parker Road, approximately two miles east of the city of Killen. The crash took place just before the afternoon hour.
The elderly female driver involved in the accident, identified as Joyce Eggleston, who was 78 years old, sustained critical injuries. Emergency services transported her quickly to a regional medical facility, North Alabama Medical Center. Despite the rapid response, hospital officials confirmed Ms. Eggleston’s untimely demise later that day.
A second adult occupant of one of the vehicles, Percy Eggleston, who is 79 years old, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was airlifted to a medical center in Huntsville for further assessment. As of now, his health status remains under review by hospital staff.
A youth, driving the third party’s vehicle, incurred minor to moderate injuries and was transported to a local healthcare facility for treatment. Law enforcement authorities, specifically the Alabama State Troopers, have secured the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
