Fatal Sandusky County car crash death of Roderick Rife
Law enforcement authorities in Ohio reported a fatality early on Sunday morning involving multiple vehicles on the Ohio Turnpike. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the incident occurred shortly before midnight near milepost 77 in Sandusky County.
State troopers detailed the events, stating that a Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound in the right lane when it collided with a tractor-trailer vehicle from behind. Following this impact, the Mustang veered into the middle lane, subsequently striking a Ford Bronco. Both the tractor-trailer and the Bronco then left the road, crashing into the concrete barrier on the left side. Tragically, the tractor-trailer vehicle caught fire at the scene.
Roderick Rife, identified as the 69-year-old operator of the tractor-trailer from Sterling Heights, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the location. The 20-year-old driver of the Mustang involved in the collision was transported to a medical facility but is expected to make a full recovery according to the troopers. The driver of the Ford Bronco sustained no injuries.
The serious nature of the accident led to the complete shutdown of the turnpike in all directions for approximately one hour. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that the official cause of this tragic event is currently under investigation.
