Fatal Darien train collision death of Andrew Ritz

Officials reported that a 46-year-old man from Bridgeport died after being hit by a train Friday evening.

The victim, identified by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department as Andrew Ritz, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.

Ritz was not permitted on the tracks just east of the Darien Station when he was struck by a westbound train at approximately 6:41 p.m.

The preliminary investigation, involving video review, suggests no criminal activity is involved. No one on the train was injured.

An investigation into the cause of Ritz’s death is currently underway.
