A woman in Leesville is being blamed for the death of a man who visited her residence.

Law enforcement in Vernon Parish received a report requiring them to check on a specific residence. This happened around the time of five o’clock in the afternoon on the twenty-third of August.

Upon getting to the place, the officers found the homeowner not responsive. They heard sounds of someone suffering when they knocked on the door.

The deputies had to enter the house due to the situation. Inside, they found one person deceased and another woman, Destini Leon, unconscious on the ground.

The deceased male was later confirmed to be Micah Schmidt, who was twenty-two years old and from DeRidder. Because of concerns for safety, Destini Leon was taken to a medical center for medical evaluation, possibly due to substance use.

According to reports from the sheriff’s office, Destini Leon informed investigators that she fired a weapon at Micah Schmidt.

Once Destini Leon was out of the hospital, she was taken into custody. She was brought before a judge in the Vernon Parish Jail system. Her release from jail depends on the court setting a specific financial guarantee.
