Giovanni Rios dies in fatal Weslaco car crash

Fatal Weslaco car crash death of Giovanni Rios

The Texas Department of Public Safety is examining a single vehicle motorcycle incident that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old male on Sunday afternoon.

According to information released by the Texas DPS, the accident took place at 5:30 p.m. on Trinidad Lane, located south of Mile 6 ½ Road, near the area of Alton.

An initial review by DPS investigators indicated that a red/white 2011 Honda CRF250F motorcycle, traveling north on Trinidad Lane, was moving at an excessive speed.

Identified as the individual involved, Giovanni Rios, lost control of the motorcycle during the incident. The motorcycle subsequently swerved off the road and collided with a streetlight edge.

Upon striking the curb, Rios was thrown from the motorcycle and impacted a traffic light pole. He was taken by ambulance to Mission Regional Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

DPS officers are continuing their investigation into this fatal crash.
