Joseph Jackson, 41, died in a fatal car crash Charlotte-Mecklenburg early Sunday night.

Fatal car crash death of Joseph Jackson, 41, on East Independence Boulevard.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Division responded to the Independence area Sunday night. Upon arriving, officers found Joseph Jackson lying unresponsive in the street outside the freeway.

Emergency medical services pronounced Jackson dead at the scene. The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado involved in the collision reported no injuries.

Investigators from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Major Crash unit and the DWI task force arrived at the location. They began a full investigation into the incident. Crime Scene Search personnel gathered evidence, with support from Charlotte Fire crews.

Initial evidence suggests Joseph Jackson was crossing the road in an area not intended for pedestrian use. It’s also noted that he was not wearing reflective gear at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Silverado was evaluated for impairment. Screening results indicated the driver was not impaired. Toxicology tests for Joseph Jackson are still pending.
