Fatal San Antonio shooting death of Justin Hernandez
San Antonio authorities have identified the individual involved in the incident where law enforcement officers discharged their weapons. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as 34-year-old Justin Hernandez, whose death was caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
The fatal shooting occurred just before midnight on Saturday. Police were dispatched to the Knight’s Inn located at 4039 East Houston Street after receiving reports of a cutting incident. This establishment is situated in the East Side area of San Antonio.
According to information provided by Police Chief William McManus, officers responded to the cutting call. Upon arrival, they allegedly discovered Hernandez engaged in self-inflicted cutting within a room at the hotel. The narrative further states that while officers were conversing with the person who reported the disturbance at the door, Hernandez became verbally threatening. He is described as moving aggressively towards the officers.
Despite the suspect’s potentially dangerous actions and the cutting incident initially reported, no officers or members of the public sustained any injuries during this encounter. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has announced that an internal affairs investigation is currently underway to review the circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting incident.
