Knoxville law enforcement has officially confirmed the identity of the male killed during a police-involved incident in the city. The fatal event occurred last week, with specifics tied to an altercation involving municipal officers.

According to the Knoxville Police Department’s recent communication, on the night of Thursday, August 21, around 11:10 p.m., officers were sent to a residence on Roche Street in the 300 block area to handle a residential conflict. Upon their arrival, they found Steven Funk, a 47-year-old local man, engaged in a physical attack on an adult woman. During this encounter, an officer discharged their firearm, resulting in a wound to Funk.

Despite immediate medical interventions by responding emergency services, including Knoxville’s emergency medical teams and hospital professionals, the injury from the gunshot was irreversible. Steven Funk was pronounced deceased at the treatment facility.

The female companion in this scenario received medical attention at a nearby healthcare facility and has since been discharged.

The individuals representing law enforcement were untouched by harm and remain unidentified to the public. As a standard procedure, they are currently on restricted duty as per departmental rules.
