Fatal Sacramento shooting death of Zavion Larue Dorsey, Wayne Douglas Doerr, and another man in his 20s

Sacramento authorities have identified two of the three individuals killed during a violent incident at an apartment complex. The Sacramento County Coroner confirmed that Zavion Larue Dorsey, who was 22 years old, Wayne Douglas Doerr, aged 24, and a third man in his early twenties were pronounced dead. Deputies responding to the scene at the Lance Apartments near El Camino Avenue discovered three men, all suffering from gunshot injuries, with firearms located nearby. A fourth man, identified as Jaylen Davis, an 18-year-old, was apprehended by the sheriff’s office but currently faces only weapon-related charges.

The tragic event began as an attempted robbery that tragically escalated into a deadly confrontation. According to the sheriff’s investigation, one of the deceased was targeted by the other two occupants of the apartment during a dispute. In the ensuing struggle, an assailant fatally shot the victim. However, the situation took a further violent turn when a fourth resident, armed with a gun, entered the fray and killed the two attackers. Despite the presence of prior felony convictions among all four men, which disqualified them from legally possessing firearms, no charges involving homicide are being pursued at this time.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has publicly expressed frustration regarding the handling of surveillance footage by Mercy Housing, the company managing the apartment complex. Initially, the housing authority delayed providing the requested video evidence, which investigators later deemed crucial for identifying a key witness who survived the incident. Obtained through a search warrant, the footage played a pivotal role in piecing together the events and locating the witness for questioning. Mercy Housing has since issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy and emphasizing its commitment to resident safety and cooperation with law enforcement, adding that it is reviewing its crisis response protocols.

Jaylen Davis, the fourth individual involved, was reported to be on active probation and equipped with an electronic monitoring device. His arrest is associated with firearm violations, and official records indicate he is prohibited from being released on bail pending his court appearance. Interestingly, earlier reports from Sunday morning indicated no suspect information, a discrepancy that contradicts the Monday news release detailing Davis’s detention.

The Lance Apartments, described on Mercy Housing’s website as offering “safe, quality low-income housing and affordable resident services,” stands as the location of this devastating incident.
