**Fatal North Long Beach hit-and-run death of Bertha Mora**

Police confirmed that Bertha Mora, a 76-year-old woman, was killed after being struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach. The incident occurred on September 12, following her walk to a nearby grocery store for supplies. Authorities stated the driver involved fled the scene and returned approximately 40 minutes later. The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Eric Dewayne Moody, is facing criminal charges.

Bertha Mora, who lived with her husband Pablo for 55 years, worked as a grocery clerk at Superior for over two decades before retiring. Her son, Loui Mora, shared that she retired to care for her four grandchildren. Known for her kindness and dedication to her family, Bertha remained active at 76, often seen walking in the neighborhood and practicing yoga with Loui.

The couple immigrated to Los Angeles in the 1960s from Guadalajara, Mexico. Pablo, a former carpenter, and Bertha, who held a factory job, raised three sons. The family maintains close ties, with all sons living nearby.

After Bertha’s death, the family held nine days of Rosario services to honor her memory. A GoFundMe page created for funeral expenses has raised $10,950 toward a $13,000 goal.

Moody is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 5. He pleaded not guilty to felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison. At his arraignment, he was released on $50,000 bail.
