Fatal Lawrence County shooting death of Jeffrey Blake Darnell
Lawrence County authorities have confirmed that a man killed in an altercation with his father has been identified. Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood announced that the deceased is 40-year-old Jeffrey Blake Darnell.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s officers arrived at a residence on County Road 214 in the Langtown area on Monday evening, responding to reports of a domestic conflict. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 40-year-old man deceased in the front yard. Additionally, deputies noted that an elderly man, 85 years old, suffered serious injuries as a result of the reported violence.
The injured 85-year-old was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. His current health status remains unclear to investigators.
Preliminary findings from the sheriff’s department suggest a familial dispute began inside the home before extending outside. According to available information, the deceased son reportedly attacked his father using a metal object, described as potentially rebar. The father managed to escape and subsequently used a handgun for protection.
Official reports indicate that the son was struck by gunfire multiple times before succumbing to his injuries at the scene. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has informed the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville that an autopsy will be conducted on the victim’s body.
