A tragic accident in Leon County has taken the life of Summer Martelli, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The incident occurred Monday near the city of Jewett.

The collision involved a dump truck and a vehicle traveling northbound on FM 39, just north of US 79. Summer Martelli, 65, from Marquez, was operating a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage at the time of the crash.

Investigators report that Martelli’s car crossed into the southbound lanes before striking the dump truck sideways. The impact caused her vehicle to leave the road and roll multiple times, coming to rest in a ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck suffered no injuries but was forced to abandon their vehicle. Emergency personnel responded quickly to the crash site.

A memorial fundraising campaign established for Martelli’s family highlights her legacy as a mother, grandmother, and animal advocate. Family members expressed her deep love for animals, stating she dedicated her life to caring for them.
