Fatal Candia car crash death of Alexander C. Smith

Emergency responders were dispatched to a serious collision on Route 101 East in Candia, New Hampshire, this morning after receiving a report around 6:05 a.m. Initial dispatch information suggested a major incident involving a large truck and another automobile, with reports indicating one individual was confined inside a vehicle that was subsequently engulfed in flames. Due to the critical nature of the situation, assistance was requested from the fire services of Auburn and Raymond.

Dispatch reports also mentioned the possibility of weapons within the vehicles, and explosions were reportedly heard at the scene. Upon their arrival, firefighters observed a four-door sedan that had collided with the rear of a dump truck. The sedan was completely surrounded by flames.

Before the fire department arrived, concerned citizens managed to pull the unresponsive driver from the vehicle. Tragically, the driver, identified as 25-year-old Alexander C. Smith from Auburn, later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The fire department noted that a damaged fuel tank from the sedan created significant challenges for their firefighting operations. Furthermore, several tires exploded, generating loud noises similar to explosions. However, the fire department did not find any evidence of ammunition following their investigation.

After successfully bringing the blaze under control and ensuring the area was safe, the command of the scene was transferred to state police. The Candia firefighters stayed to help manage traffic and facilitate the reopening of Route 101.

The Candia Fire Department issued a statement expressing their appreciation for the actions of the bystanders who rescued the individual, emphasizing their courage in prioritizing others despite the dangers present. State police confirmed that the dump truck involved had been stationary on the roadside due to a mechanical failure.

Officials have identified the deceased as Alexander C. Smith, a resident of Auburn who was 25 years old.
