Fatal rural Alden shooting death of Joshua Petersen
Joshua, aged 45, succumbed to bullet injuries. According to reports from the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Petersen passed away on Thursday following an incident at his parents’ home in rural Alden on Wednesday.
Deputies responded to the scene around the evening hours after receiving reports of a potential disturbance at the residence belonging to 71-year-old Dave Petersen and his wife, Shari, aged 69. Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered Joshua Petersen suffering from chest wounds caused by gunfire.
Emergency medical services provided initial care before transporting the injured man to a regional hospital. However, further treatment was required at a medical facility in Rochester, where his condition ultimately led to his death.
Circumstances surrounding the incident indicate Joshua Petersen was prohibited from being present at his parents’ home due to existing legal orders. These orders, which were still active despite his presence, related to violations stemming from previous conflicts with his parents. It’s also noted that an expired restraining order, issued against Joshua by his 47-year-old sibling, was in place at the time of the incident, though this sibling was not residing at the property.
Family members Dave and Shari Petersen also sustained minor injuries, described as blunt force trauma, and were treated at the hospital. The authorities confirmed the presence of two children within the residence during the disturbance, although details regarding their departure later with their mother have been reported.
All three adults involved in the incident were interviewed by law enforcement before being released. The investigation has not yet identified the individual responsible for the gunfire that resulted in Joshua Petersen’s death, and the probe continues.
