Fatal Leadville shooting death of Landon Lavelle Mentink

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, alongside the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, is examining a fatal shooting stemming from a reported road rage incident. A suspect, identified as 31-year-old Robert Price Chase from Leadville, faces charges including second-degree murder and is currently held at the Lake County Detention facility.

On the evening of September 23, around 10 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to the 13200 block of US Highway 24 following reports of gunfire. Responding officers discovered an adult male deceased from gunshot wounds. The deceased has been confirmed as 40-year-old Landon Lavelle Mentink of Leadville. Preliminary investigations suggest the two individuals were involved in a confrontation triggered by road rage, culminating in Chase allegedly shooting the victim.

Chase recently appeared in court, where a $100,000 bond was established. His subsequent court date is scheduled for October 16 at 2 p.m. The ongoing investigation is spearheaded by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office providing support.
