Fatal crash death of Leonidas Castro

Placer County coroner’s office has identified the motorcyclist killed in the incident that closed eastbound Interstate 80 near Gold Run on Wednesday. He was Leonidas Castro, aged 78.

The fatal accident happened Wednesday afternoon in a construction area on eastbound I-80 close to Crystal Springs Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved two motorcycles and one other vehicle.

Leonidas Castro was thrown from his bike and died at the scene, said CHP officials. The reason for the crash is currently under investigation. Law enforcement stated it is unclear whether Castro’s motorcycle went off the road.
