The Kern County Coroner’s office has officially identified the two individuals who lost their lives following the collision on Highway 65. They were identified as 76-year-old Napoleon Frayna Grande and 66-year-old Susan Julian Grande, both residents of Daly City. This information was shared by local news station KBAK/KBFX.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, on the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 11:44 a.m., an incident occurred at the intersection of Famoso Road and Highway 65. Citing preliminary findings, the CHP stated that Napoleon Frayna Grande was operating a 2016 Honda Fit on the eastbound portion of Famoso Road. It was alleged that he failed to stop completely at a stop sign before entering the highway. A 55-year-old man, driving a 2014 Freightliner truck southbound on Highway 65, then made contact with the Honda Fit.

The force of the impact severely damaged the smaller vehicle. Following the collision, the Honda Fit became unstable, ultimately traveling off the main roadway and coming to a stop on the eastbound shoulder. The impact also affected the Freightliner, causing it to leave control and tumble onto a nearby dirt bank. This resulted in significant traffic disruption, with the southbound lane completely blocked and the northbound lane partially obstructed.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed that two fatalities were directly attributed to this Highway 65 crash. No further details were provided regarding the condition of the involved vehicles or the extent of injuries among the surviving drivers at the scene. An unrelated photograph was included with the news report, showing the scene of the accident. The driver of the Freightliner was transported to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment. The California Highway Patrol concluded their initial assessment by stating that neither alcohol nor any drugs were considered contributing factors in the occurrence of this serious collision.
