Fatal Fort Wayne shooting death of Jacob Lee Leckenby

The Allen County Coroner’s Office officially identified the individual shot by Fort Wayne Police during a reported stabbing incident. According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, law enforcement officers discharged their firearms, resulting in the death of the suspect who had assaulted an officer.

Initial reports received by authorities on Monday detailed a domestic disturbance call placed for an apartment complex located in the 2100 block of St. Mary’s Avenue. Responding officers encountered a situation where one of their colleagues was attacked.

Upon learning of the assault on a colleague, the Fort Wayne police officer immediately returned fire, leading to the suspect being struck by gunfire. This law enforcement action was determined to be the cause of the suspect’s death, officially classified as a homicide by police action.

The coroner confirmed that Leckenby, identified as a 33-year-old Fort Wayne resident, was the victim of this fatal shooting incident. His death represents the 31st homicide recorded in Allen County during the current calendar year.

While the identity of the officer who suffered the stab wound injury remains undisclosed at this time, current information indicates that the officer is receiving medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition, with injuries not deemed immediately life-threatening.
