A 53-year-old female resident of Rush City, identified as Rachael Morey, lost her life when a collision occurred on 280th Street near 100th Avenue, south of Onamia, on Wednesday morning. The scene was marked by flames following the incident. Authorities credit several bystanders with intervening to rescue the other driver before the vehicle they were in was consumed by fire.

According to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, the incident transpired around 6:30 a.m. One occupant, known as Rachael Morey, did not survive the collision at the scene. The other driver, Lucas Boros, who is 24 years old and from Little Falls, was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Good Samaritans who observed the event included Dustin Bevins from Dalton, Chad Boser from Pierz, and Joseph Schuman from Fergus Falls. Sheriff Kyle Burton highlighted their actions in a press release, stating that the three individuals managed to break the driver’s side window to rescue Boros just seconds before the fire made rescue efforts impossible, likely preventing a fatality or severe injury.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing by the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office.
