Law enforcement officials from Laurens County announced they were dispatched to a shooting near Lake Greenwood on Wednesday night. Responding units arrived at Pineland Shores Circle at approximately 6:45 p.m., where they discovered an individual deceased. Another person was being held temporarily at that time. The county coroner’s office then arrived at the location around 7:40 p.m. to conduct an examination.

The victim has been confirmed as Thomas Jay Ruger, a 30-year-old resident of Waterloo. Death was officially attributed to homicide, with the fatal injury resulting from gunshot wounds. According to the authorities, Ruger had arrived at the premises at about 6:40 p.m. when a dispute erupted. During this confrontation, the resident involved discharged a firearm. Initial reports from deputies indicated that one person was in custody, but they later revised this statement to clarify that no suspect had been apprehended yet. They emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the general public.
