Houston authorities announced charges against Jaret Donovan Garcia following the death of Trinh Vinh Hoang Thuyen, a 22-year-old man, in a shooting that occurred Thursday. Harris County officials stated the incident was a “rapid exchange” encounter involving handguns. Garcia, who was 20 at the time, was formally accused of murder through legal paperwork submitted on Friday.

Court filings indicate Garcia is accused of deliberately causing Thuyen’s death by firing a weapon. It is further alleged that Garcia aimed to inflict severe bodily harm and performed an action that posed a significant risk to human life during the confrontation.

Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the location situated in a northern part of the county, near Kuykendahl and Richey. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez’s social media update, they discovered Thuyen deceased. The report states that Garcia and Thuyen were engaged in a reported game of “fast-draw,” each holding a semi-automatic handgun, when Garcia allegedly opened fire and killed Thuyen.
