On the previous Saturday, a pedestrian met their demise following an impact with a pickup truck while endeavoring to cross a westbound Interstate 10 on-ramp. This unfortunate incident transpired in the north Indio area, specifically west of Monroe Street, at approximately noon on September 27th. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the individual was in the process of traversing the southbound onramp on foot when the vehicle, a GMC Sierra, turned onto the ramp from Monroe Street and collided with them. The force of the collision, involving the truck’s left front section, resulted in the pedestrian’s immediate death at the scene.
Riverside County Coroner’s office later confirmed the identity of the deceased as 62-year-old John Keogh on the following day, September 28th. CHP Officer David Torres has indicated that the ongoing investigation is focused on determining the reasons behind the driver’s actions, with no decision yet made regarding the pickup truck operator’s potential arrest.
This event marks the second fatality in the Coachella Valley within a 24-hour period, as authorities noted a similar incident occurring the night before. On Friday evening, another man was killed when he was struck while attempting to cross Indian Canyon Drive in a designated crosswalk in Palm Springs.
