Fatal Ann Arbor shooting death of Lamar Thomas
The eighteen-year-old victim, later identified as Lamar Thomas, a high school graduate, died as a result of gunshots fired in the area of Platt Road and Packard Street, according to a statement released by the Ann Arbor police department. Thomas, originally from Westland, was pronounced dead at the hospital following the incident.
Hospital staff confirmed Thomas arrived at the facility in critical condition after the fatal shooting, which occurred on the afternoon of September 26th at approximately 1:15 p.m. A local law enforcement officer, while monitoring nearby traffic, observed a vehicle speeding away from the scene and initiated a pursuit.
Despite the vehicle crashing separately down the street, the investigation linked the fatal incident to the same individuals. Charges are expected to be reviewed in court soon regarding these three people connected to the shooting. One minor participant received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the subsequent vehicle collision.
A community fundraising page has been established to assist the family with expenses related to Mr. Thomas’s final arrangements. The statement accompanying this online appeal expressed deep sorrow over the young man’s passing and highlighted his aspirations and family values. The Thomas family has requested privacy and has chosen not to engage with the media further.
