Edward Lachapelle Dies in Fatal Grand Island Drowning Incident
Fatal Grand Island Drowning Incident Death of Edward Lachapelle
On the early morning hours of Saturday, an Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported a boating mishap on Grand Island leading to the death of Edward Lachapelle, a 61-year-old resident of Turner, Maine. The incident occurred while Lachapelle was aboard his sailboat at the Sandy Beach Yacht Club. According to authorities, the boat was secured at the dock when Mr. Lachapelle fell over the stern into the Niagara River.
Receiving a 9-1-1 call at around 12:20 AM, emergency services began an immediate search operation. Approximately one hour after the initial report, personnel located Lachapelle’s body more than a hundred yards downstream from where he entered the water. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity later that day and stated that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is still in progress.
