Fatal Vancouver Island car crash death of Nick Antoine

Following a collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 4, a 20-year-old man has been confirmed deceased. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near Cameron Lake. Law enforcement officials report the eastbound Honda Civic experienced a loss of control, particularly on a stretch featuring multiple curves. This resulted in a collision with a westbound Chevrolet Impala. The Civic subsequently caught fire and was consumed by flames. The operator of the Civic did not survive the incident. The Impala’s driver, identified as a man from Alberta aged 70, received medical attention and suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. The current status of this driver remains undisclosed by authorities as of Monday.

The family of the deceased has confirmed Nick Antoine’s identity. In interviews and social media posts, Antoine’s mother, Nancy, expressed that her son was en route to Sooke for a musical performance with his band. Her statement, “My son was chasing his dreams,” conveyed deep sorrow. The band Dead Ahead subsequently released a tribute, stating, “Nick wasn’t just a good guy, he was a great young man,” and extending support to his loved ones. Antoine was participating with the band as its bass player.

Oceanside RCMP have stated their preliminary assessment points towards factors such as excessive speed or challenging road conditions as possible contributors to the incident, though the investigation is ongoing.
