Fatal Canton car crash death of Marvin Hightower

Canton authorities reported that a 35-year-old man lost his life Friday morning following a collision between an electric bike and a sport utility vehicle in the city. Police arrived at approximately 4:15 a.m. at the intersection of Navarre Road SW and Harrison Avenue SW, responding to an incident involving a 2000 Ford Excursion and an electric bicycle.

Investigators stated the SUV was moving south on Harrison Avenue SW when it collided with the cyclist, who was traveling east on Navarre Road SW and allegedly did not comply with a traffic signal. The cyclist, later identified as Marvin Hightower from Canton, was transported to a medical facility but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The operator of the SUV sustained no injuries, and preliminary findings suggest drugs or alcohol were not involved, though the condition of the cyclist at the time of the incident remains under examination. The Canton Metro Crash Team is conducting the official investigation into the incident.
