David O’Neill died following a single-vehicle accident in south Charlotte on Saturday morning, authorities reported. The crash occurred around 10 a.m. on Carmel Road near Mullens Ford Road when the Honda CRV he was driving left the roadway.

Officers found O’Neill unconscious in the driver’s seat with severe injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police suspect that excessive speed may have contributed to the accident, though they are awaiting toxicology results to determine whether impairment was a factor.
