Jennifer Jensen, 36, of Kansas City, Missouri, was killed in a two-truck collision in Independence on Saturday night, authorities reported. The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of northbound MO-291 Highway and East Kentucky Road.

Investigators said a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling west on Kentucky Road, ran a red light and entered the intersection, striking the passenger side of a 2010 Ford Ranger. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lanes of MO-291. Jensen, a passenger in the Ranger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the Ranger and the Silverado driver were hospitalized with serious injuries, and police suspect alcohol may have played a role in the collision.

Southbound MO-291 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene. The Independence Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
