Kamelah Michilena, a 1-year-old girl, died after being found unresponsive at a motel in West Charlotte early Friday morning, authorities reported. Officers arrived at the Studios & Suites 4 Less around 1:20 a.m. and discovered the child not breathing. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged Kamelah’s mother, 26-year-old Brionce Parks, with felony child abuse and exposing a child to a controlled substance. Authorities allege the child was exposed to cocaine and fentanyl, which contributed to her death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kamelah’s passing remains ongoing.
