Authorities in Gaston County, North Carolina, have confirmed the death of a man who was injured in a house fire on Sunday. The victim was 75-year-old Dennis Hamlin, father of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.

First responders arrived at a home in the Stanley community, about 20 miles outside Charlotte, after a fire was reported at 6:19 p.m. Two individuals were found outside the four-bedroom residence at 6:27 p.m. and transported to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Dennis Hamlin later died from his injuries, while his wife, Mary Lou Hamlin, remains in critical condition at a Winston-Salem hospital.

Officials said the cause of the fire is currently undetermined due to the extensive damage and structural collapse, and the investigation remains ongoing.
