Fatal Coalinga car crash death of Carlos and Maria Pimentel – Obituary

Authorities have identified the couple killed in a head-on collision near Coalinga as 69-year-old Carlos Pimentel and his 62-year-old wife, Maria, both residents of the city.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 145, just south of Ford Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Shawn Borecha of Riverside was traveling south when he attempted to pass two vehicles by entering the northbound lane, striking the Pimentels’ Hyundai.

Both Carlos and Maria died at the scene, while Borecha sustained minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and now faces multiple felony charges, including manslaughter.
