Authorities have identified 53-year-old Christopher Fontenot of Lafayette as the motorcyclist who died Tuesday morning after colliding with a tow truck. The Lafayette Police Department reported that he was pronounced dead following the crash.

According to police, the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on NW Evangeline Thruway near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Preliminary findings indicate that Fontenot was traveling south when his motorcycle struck a vehicle being towed by a truck making a left turn into a parking lot.

Fontenot was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed. The tow truck driver was cited for failure to yield while making the turn, though authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
