Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, students at Brown University, were killed during a mass shooting on campus on December 13. The attack also left nine others wounded, prompting the university to announce enhanced safety measures.
The incident occurred during finals at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Authorities confirmed that both Cook and Umurzokov were among the victims who lost their lives in the tragic event.
In response, the university has implemented a series of security upgrades ahead of the spring semester. These measures include converting campus buildings to card-access entry, installing additional security cameras, adding panic buttons in critical locations, and increasing public safety staffing and training.
Hugh Clements Jr., interim vice president for public safety at Brown, emphasized the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future. In a campus letter, he stated that the events of December 13 should never occur again and affirmed the university’s commitment to safeguarding the community.
