Fatal Melville, New York car crash death of Nelson Gonzalez – Obituary

Nelson Gonzalez, 63, of Brentwood, New York, was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash on December 26 in Melville and later died from his injuries. The collision occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Pinelawn Road and Express Drive South.

Authorities reported that Gonzalez was driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Pinelawn Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Express Drive South at a green light when his vehicle was struck head-on by a northbound 2025 Mazda CX-7, driven by 59-year-old John Ankelman of Farmingdale. Police charged Ankelman with driving while intoxicated.

Gonzalez was initially taken to Plainview Hospital and later transferred to North Shore Community Hospital in Manhasset, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Both vehicles were impounded, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Second Squad detectives.
