MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA — Tommy R. Gorrell, a resident of Morgantown, was arrested in Monongalia County in connection with a domestic-related incident involving gunfire and an officer-involved shooting.
According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, Gorrell was taken into custody early Saturday after deputies responded just after midnight on December 6 to reports of a domestic incident with shots fired at a residence on Ed Dunn Road. Authorities say Gorrell failed to comply with commands and did not disarm, leading to him being shot on the porch of the property.
An unidentified female was also injured during the incident, suffering a gunshot wound to the arm. Gorrell is facing four counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of wanton endangerment. He is expected to be arraigned over the weekend, and officials noted that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s department stated that officers from multiple agencies involved in the response were found to have acted within the scope of the law and departmental policy and have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
