Fatal Dubuque, Iowa shooting deaths of Cory Wilson Jr. and Jaiondrick Lovely – Obituary
Cory Wilson Jr., 29, and Jaiondrick Lovely, 28, both died following a violent incident involving gunfire and police intervention outside a Dubuque bar early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, the situation began around 12:52 a.m. when a police officer noticed a physical altercation taking place outside the Odd Fellows bar in Dubuque. During the confrontation, the officer observed Lovely draw a handgun and shoot Wilson.
Police say the officer then discharged his weapon at Lovely. After being shot, Lovely ran into the bar. Emergency personnel responded quickly and provided medical aid to both men at the scene before they were transported to separate hospitals. Despite lifesaving efforts, Wilson and Lovely later died from their injuries.
The officer involved in the incident was not hurt and has been placed on critical incident leave in line with department policy. The officer’s name has not been released.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is overseeing the investigation into the officer’s use of force, while the Dubuque Police Department is separately examining the events that led up to the shooting of Cory Wilson Jr.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the circumstances surrounding the incident to contact the Dubuque Police Department as investigations remain ongoing.
