Fatal Crawford County, Wisconsin car crash death of Kristen Howell – Obituary

Kristen Howell, a 26-year-old woman from Soldiers Grove, died Tuesday morning after a deadly multi-vehicle collision on Highway 61 in Crawford County. Kristen Howell was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the SUV she was riding in.

The crash occurred around 6:26 a.m. near Bear Cave Lane in the Town of Scott as icy road conditions made travel hazardous. Authorities said the SUV Howell was in lost control while navigating a curve and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Justin Forde of Sparta, struck a northbound box truck head-on. The box truck was operated by 48-year-old Christopher Hahn of Lancaster. Investigators reported that Howell was thrown from the SUV upon impact.

Following the initial collision, a third vehicle driven by 26-year-old Cheyenne Towsley of Shullsburg struck the damaged SUV. Towsley was not hurt in the crash, while Hahn sustained minor injuries.

Forde was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains under medical care. Emergency responders closed Highway 61 for approximately five hours as crews worked the scene and investigators gathered evidence.

Officials confirmed that icy conditions were a significant factor in the crash. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
