Lowndes County, Alabama Man Carmello Brown Arrested in Fort Deposit for Deadly Shooting

LOWNDES COUNTY, ALABAMA — Carmello Brown was arrested in Fort Deposit in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred Monday afternoon near Lowndes Middle School.

According to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Brown was taken into custody on Monday after his uncle contacted deputies and reported that Brown had been involved in a shooting and wanted to turn himself in. Authorities say the arrest followed a meeting behind the school between Brown and the victim, Ke’Jaun Armstrong, related to the sale of a handgun.

Investigators said Brown had arranged to sell the firearm to Armstrong for $450. After the transaction, Brown allegedly fired several shots at a vehicle Armstrong was riding in as it drove away, striking him across the body. Armstrong was transported to Greenville Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Brown was booked into the Lowndes County Jail and is facing charges of murder and second-degree receiving stolen property. No motive for the shooting has been released.
