Fatal D’Iberville, Mississippi shooting death of Tristan Young – Obituary

Tristan Young, a 25-year-old man from Hattiesburg, died after being shot during an incident tied to an alleged armed robbery in D’Iberville, according to authorities. The Harrison County Coroner’s Office confirmed Young’s identity following the deadly encounter, which occurred Monday evening.

D’Iberville police said officers were called to the 11000 block of Cinema Drive around 7:30 p.m. after reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they found Young suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from a planned meeting to purchase electronic devices. Police said the victim, who repairs and resells computers and electronics, believed he was meeting someone to buy an iPad near a Papa John’s location. Authorities allege that Young and another man, Ahmad Rasheed Hawthorne, planned to rob the buyer during the transaction.

According to police, Young attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint, prompting the victim to draw his own firearm and shoot in self-defense. Investigators stated that only the victim fired a weapon and that no charges have been filed against him.

Following the shooting, police issued an alert for a vehicle that left the scene. The vehicle was later located by Biloxi police, and Hawthorne, 25, of Gulfport, was detained. He has since been charged with accessory before the fact to armed robbery and booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
