Fatal Wyoming avalanche death of Nick Bringhurst – Obituary
A tragic accident occurred over the weekend in the Wyoming backcountry, where Nick Bringhurst, a Springville man, lost his life while snowmobiling. According to family members, Nick, 28, was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, deeply connected to nature and the people he shared his adventures with.
The incident took place on January 11 around 2 p.m. in the La Barge Creek area. Nick and a companion were snowmobiling when Nick triggered an avalanche by riding over a creek bed. The avalanche buried him under two feet of snow, despite Nick having proper equipment and deploying his airbag. The airbag, however, was not sufficient to bring him to the surface, as the avalanche did not slide far enough for it to be effective.
Nick’s companion, noticing the silence when the engine noise stopped, retraced their steps and discovered Nick buried behind his snowmobile. Despite attempts to perform lifesaving measures, they were unsuccessful in reviving him.
Nick’s family shared that he and his wife, Lauren, shared a deep bond rooted in their love for the outdoors, having met while river guiding. Their shared adventures built a life filled with love, laughter, and a mutual appreciation for nature.
Nick is remembered as a devoted husband, loving son, and loyal friend who had an uncanny ability to make everyone around him feel welcome. A funeral service will be held in Springville to honor his memory.
