Fatal Saginaw shooting death of Jose Barrera – Obituary

Jose Barrera, 41, of Saginaw, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in what authorities have confirmed as the city’s first homicide of 2026. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North 12th Street.

Saginaw Police responded after receiving a 911 call, during which dispatchers heard the victim stop breathing. Officers arriving at the scene found Barrera dead from a gunshot wound.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting, though authorities have not released their name as arraignment had not yet occurred. Police continue to investigate Barrera’s death, and no information about a motive has been made public.
