Fatal Santa Clarita hockey team crash death of Manuel Alejandro Lorenzana Villegas – Obituary
On January 29, 2026, 38-year-old Manuel Alejandro Lorenzana Villegas tragically lost his life in a crash involving a Colorado Department of Transportation snowplow. Villegas, who was driving a Sprinter van carrying members of the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers youth hockey team, collided with the snowplow on Interstate 70 in Clear Creek County, Colorado.
Villegas, the father of one of the team members, died at the scene. The crash injured seven other people, including four children and three adults, who were taken to a nearby hospital. All four children were discharged, while two adults were hospitalized in serious condition and one in fair condition. The Lady Flyers, a team of girls under 12 years old, continued their tournament schedule despite the tragedy, showing remarkable strength and resilience in honor of Villegas and the team’s spirit.
The crash occurred when the snowplow driver lost control and veered across the median, hitting the van, causing it to crash down an embankment. The accident remains under investigation.
