Enaj B. Vasconcellos, 21, of Summerville, South Carolina, was killed early Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash while reportedly attempting to evade law enforcement, authorities confirmed.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. on Nexton Parkway near Grand Boulevard. Vasconcellos was driving a 2022 Chevrolet sedan westbound when he tried to pass a westbound 2023 Honda SUV and collided with an eastbound 2018 Subaru SUV.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Vasconcellos dead from injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Honda was unharmed, while the driver of the Subaru was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fire and rescue teams from Pine Ridge, C & B, Berkeley County EMS, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Authorities have not disclosed the reason for the attempted evasion, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
