Fatal Gwinnett County shooting death of Officer Pradeep Temang – Obituary
Officer Pradeep Temang was killed after being shot while responding to a call in Gwinnett County early Sunday morning, according to police officials. Officer Pradeep Temang, a 25-year-old member of the Gwinnett County Police Department, later died at a hospital from injuries sustained during the attack.
Authorities said the shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. inside a room at the Holiday Inn Express located near Parke Plaza Circle and East Park Place, close to Stone Mountain. Officers had gone to the hotel after being asked to investigate a reported fraud incident.
Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure said officers were speaking with a suspect inside the room when the man suddenly pulled out a firearm and opened fire without warning. The chief described the incident as an unprovoked attack on the responding officers.
Officer Temang had been with the police department for less than a year. He was originally from Nepal and had immigrated to the United States, previously living in Pennsylvania before joining the Gwinnett County force.
A second officer, Corporal David Reed, was also shot during the incident. Police said Reed was transported for medical treatment and is listed in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Andrews, was injured as well. Officials stated that Andrews has a criminal history that includes multiple felony convictions involving firearms and violent offenses, along with outstanding warrants. After being treated at a hospital, he was released and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.
Chief McClure said the department remains committed to serving the community despite the violence, emphasizing that officers will not be deterred by the attack. He also noted that this marks the first Gwinnett County officer killed in the line of duty since 2018, when Officer Antwan Toney was fatally shot. Corporal Reed and Officer Toney were members of the same police academy graduating class.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and is conducting an independent investigation. The Gwinnett County Police Department is working alongside the district attorney’s office to determine the appropriate charges against Andrews.
