Alexander “Sasha” Rosen, a 17-year-old student, lost his life Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking to school in Madison, Wisconsin, according to local authorities.
The incident happened on South Park Street shortly before 7:50 a.m. Emergency dispatchers received several calls from witnesses reporting a pedestrian had been hit, prompting a rapid response from the Madison Fire Department.
When emergency medical crews arrived, a bystander was already performing CPR on the teenager. Firefighters and EMS personnel immediately took over life-saving efforts and transported Alexander “Sasha” Rosen to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The Madison Metropolitan School District confirmed that Alexander “Sasha” Rosen was a senior at West High School. His death has deeply affected the school community.
Police officials stated that the driver involved remained at the scene and was later taken to a local hospital for a blood draw. Investigators are awaiting test results as part of the ongoing review.
According to Madison police, traffic investigators are examining several factors, including speed, possible cellphone use, and whether the crash was accidental. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still active.
Police also confirmed that Alexander “Sasha” Rosen was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to determine how the vehicle entered the crosswalk.
The driver has not been publicly identified, and no information has been released regarding potential charges.
A section of South Park Street was closed for approximately two hours while officers and crash reconstruction teams conducted their investigation.
Following the fatal incident, Madison police urged motorists to exercise greater caution, reminding drivers to slow down, stay attentive, and avoid distractions to prevent further tragedies on city streets.
