Fatal I-70 crash death of Colton Wiedman – Obituary
Colton Wiedman, 29, of Littleton, has been identified as the operator of a snowplow involved in a deadly multi-vehicle accident on I-70. The crash occurred when the CDOT snowplow driven by Wiedman crossed the median and collided with multiple vehicles, including a car and a transit van carrying a youth hockey team from California.
The Colorado State Patrol reported that the incident happened on Jan. 30 at approximately 8:53 a.m. Preliminary findings indicate that Wiedman lost control of the westbound snowplow, causing it to breach the median and break through the cable guardrail. The plow then entered the eastbound lanes, striking a Toyota Tacoma, which in turn collided with a BMW in the westbound lanes.
The snowplow continued into the eastbound lane and hit a Ford Transit van carrying members of the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers, who had traveled to Colorado for the Western Girls Hockey League Championship. The van came to rest down an embankment, with the driver pronounced dead at the scene. Seven passengers, including four juveniles and three adults, were taken to a local hospital, and one juvenile was airlifted to a trauma center with critical injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, as authorities continue to gather information about the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
