The deadly incident happened shortly after 7:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of Highway 87. Law enforcement and emergency crews responded quickly and temporarily closed the roadway between Tinkle Drive and North Jacks Road as they worked the scene.

Investigators reported that witnesses and video evidence showed Monica Breland running across the highway and entering active traffic, where she was hit by a westbound vehicle. Authorities stated that the driver remained at the scene.
