Authorities have identified the man who lost his life in a deadly collision involving a school bus in Ozaukee County. Darren Hess, a 57-year-old resident of West Bend, was behind the wheel of a pickup truck traveling along County Highway I, just north of Cedarburg, when the crash occurred late last week.

According to initial findings, Hess’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and struck a school bus head-on. Emergency crews responded to the scene, where Hess was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the impact. The school bus driver, who was the only person on the bus at the time, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Investigators say the cause of the crash has not yet been finalized.
